Biography
Maria Amelia Monti is an Italian actress who has always been working between television, theater, cinema and radio. She’s also active on social media, where she posts reels that reach millions of people. Currently, she is touring with Marina Massironi in one of the biggest successes of the 2022-2023 Italian theater season: the comedy Il Marito Invisibile , written by Edoardo Erba. Recently, she performed in the Netflix series Guida Astrologica per Cuori Infranti (2022) and in Carla (2021), a biopic on the life of Carla Fracci, produced by RAI.
Alongside Gerry Scotti, she starred in Finalmente a Casa (2009), Finalmente una Favola (2009) and Finalmente Natale (2008). These movies were sequels of Finalmente Soli , a cult television sitcom that aired for eight years (1998-2006) and won the sympathy of millions of italian spectators. On television, Maria Amelia also played in Distretto di Polizia 11 (2011), Due Mamme di Troppo (2010), Casa Gambardella (2010), Amiche (2003-2004), Amico Mio (1998), and Dio Vede e Provvede (1998).
As a comedian and TV host, she brilliantly presented La Tivù delle Ragazze (2018, 1988-1989), Circo di Radiotre (1995), Arriva la Cicogna (1992), Il Gioco dei Nove (1990), Banane (1989/90), Jeans (1985/86), Proffimamente Non Stop (1985), Viva le Donne (1984), and Drive In (1984).
Her theater career has been equally intense, as she starred in Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple Giochi di Prestigio (2019-2021) and in Alan Bennet’s Nudi e Crudi (2016-2018) alongside Paolo Calabresi. Together with Angela Finocchiaro, Maria Amelia also starred in La Scena (2014-2017), a comedy by Cristina Comencini which has been for three years in a row a box office hit in major Italian theaters. Moreover, she had a leading role in three of Edoardo Erba’s plays: Tante Belle Cose (2011-2012), Michelina (2008-2010) and Margarita e il Gallo (2006-2008). She starred alongside Antonio Catania in Natalia Ginzburg’s Ti ho Sposato per Allegria (2003-06) directed by Valerio Binasco, in Slade’s Stessa ora il Prossimo Anno (2000-2002) with Marco Columbro, in Plaza Suite (1997-1999) with Massimo Dapporto, in L’Uomo della Mia Vita (1999) with Gigio Alberti, in Erba’s Vizio di Famiglia (1997-1998) directed by Giampiero Solari, alongside Luca Zingaretti and Rocco Papaleo in Di Notte non Bisognerebbe Andare a Caso (1995), with Alessandro Haber in La Panchina (1994-1995) and with Giuliana De Sio in Crimini del Cuore (1991-1992) directed by Nanni Loi. Maria Amelia also played in Natalia Ginzburg’s La Segretaria (1990), Teresa Non Sparare (1989) alongside Giuseppe Cederna and in her first theatre debut Minnie La Candida (1981) with Giulia Lazzarini, produced by Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
Maria Amelia’s memorable film roles include Come Saltano i Pesci (2017) with Giorgio Colangeli, Tredici a Tavola (2004) by Enrico Oldoini, Asini (1996) with Claudio Bisio, Mi Fai un Favore (1997) with Alessandro Gassman, Miracolo Italiano (1996) with Renato Pozzetto and Stiamo Attraversando un Brutto Periodo (1989) with Alessandro Haber. As a radio host, she presented Ho i Miei Buoni Motivi (1993), Gelato (1994), Fuori il Rospo (1996) and Mister Ufo (2002), and participated in radio series Nessuno è Perfetto (2007) and several times at the cult radio broadcast Il Ruggito del Coniglio (1995-2023).
